COLLEGE STATION, Texas, Nov. 2, 2009 -- Getting into the sports business is never easy. Usually, you have to have millions of dollars to get involved in owning anything that has to do with professional sports.
However, one College Station man is making it easy for NASCAR fans to be sponsors of a racecar.
Of course when you think of Nascar sponsors, the big names like Lowe's, the U.S. Army, and UPS come to mind. But, what if you could get your very own name on the hood of a Nascar race car?
Matt Ferguson is the owner of Fancar and for $20, you can get your name on a racecar, a certificate of sponsorship, and get a say in how the car looks on race day.
"We get a racecar on the track and all the fans are going to know that we're for real! We're actually going to get the car on the track! That's going to get us some momentum for Daytona and every race afterwards," said Ferguson.
On Monday, Fancar announced that native Texan Terry Labonte will be driving the Fancar on November 22nd at the Homestead race in Florida.
"We're excited about it! He's a two time cup champion and he will be racing the racecar. This isn't a start and park sort of thing, he is going to be out there racing his heart out," said Ferguson.
And the Fancar owner assures that every cent that Nascar fans spend on sponsoring the Fancar goes directly to the racing team.
"We want to make a conduit for the fans to become a sponsor of the racecar. The way that Fancar is going to make its money is off the sideline things. Other sponsorships, other advertisements, I don't know what else, those things are coming up. I just want to make sure that this (Fancar) happens," said Ferguson.
