K. Kester Featured as Track Chic's Woman Behind the Wheels
COLLEGE STATION, Texas, September 10, 2009 - Kester Racing's Kristy Kester was recently featured as Track Chic's "Woman Behind the Wheels" for the month of September. Each month, Track Chic highlights a new female racing athlete and shares her story with the racing community on www.TrackChic.com.
Track Chic is a special celebration of Speed, Style & Sisterhood for female race fans. Their mission is to bring together and give voice to the millions of female fans worldwide and showcase the many women involved both behind the wheels and behind the scenes in motorsports today.
This month Track Chic caught up with Kester to learn the ins and outs of her growing career. Some of her story is featured below.
KRISTY KESTER of Royalty, TX, proudly represents the next generation of talented women in auto racing. Currently competing in the Star Mazda Championship Series, she has proven she has what it takes to compete head-to-head with the best drivers in her class.
The Star Mazda Series is sanctioned by the International Motor Sports Association and currently appears with the prestigious American LeMans Series as well as with the NASCAR Nationwide Series, ARCA, and Grand Am. Over the past nineteen years, the Star Mazda Championship has grown into one of the most prolific, successful and richest driver development series in all of auto racing.
Many top drivers began, or accelerated, their careers in the Star Mazda Championship. Recent alumni include such top open-wheel racers as Graham Rahal, Marco Andretti, Raphael Matos and the ex-American F1 driver, Scott Speed.
This is Kristy's second year in the Star Mazda Championship and she has already captured the imagination and attention of her racing driving coach - winner of LeMans, Daytona and a six-time racer in the Indy 500, Davy Jones. The coach and driver duo have now set their mutual sights on a future in the IRL and the Indianapolis 500.
Kristy has been sharpening her skills on the race track for the last seven years quickly moving up through the classes from the early days of Briggs Kart Class to Formula E Racecar Series, winning podiums and championships along the way.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS TO DATE:
2008: 9th place in Star Mazda Championship and BBS Hard Charger of the Year Award
2007: 2 wins in Formula Enterprise SCCA
2006: 2nd overall in IKF 125cc Nationals
2005: 2nd place at IKF Grand Nationals
Proving she is just as focused off the track as on, Kristy graduated as class Valedictorian from Grandfalls Texas -Royalty High School. Now 21, Kristy is a student at Texas A&M University where she is majoring in Biomedical Sciences and plans to charge through her undergraduate studies to enter medical school.
